Presentation:

Exceeding Expectations – Planning and Developing Fenced Dog Parks

The City of Greater Geelong is home to over 35,000 registered dogs and until recently only one very small fenced off-leash area.   The local community was very keen to see more dog parks created and Alistair will outline the planning and development processes Council adopted to ensure the siting, design and management of dog parks occurred in a consistent manner.  He will also share both the challenges and the overwhelming success of the Belmont Dog Park constructed as Geelong’s flagship facility.  The City has found that dogs play a significant role in many people’s lives and dog parks can help draw people together by encouraging them outside to interact, exercise and share the common bond of owning a dog.
