The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning – Local Parks Program
The past 2 years have shown us how important it is for our mental and physical well-being that we can spend time in our local community enjoying exercise and recreation – good access to open, green spaces has been central to this. A series of local parks initiatives makes up a significant component of the Victorian Government’s four year $154 million Suburban Parks Program which seeks to create 6,500 hectares of new and upgraded parks and trails, creating a ring of suburban parks around Melbourne, enhancing the city’s open spaces and general liveability. The local parks initiatives includes targeted investment of $35 million for 29 new pocket parks, $10 million for revitalising existing parks, and $5 million for 16 new off-leash dog parks.
This work commenced in mid-2019 and is being delivered in partnership with local councils. This presentation will highlight some of the exciting park projects that have been funded under the program, including the innovative and collaborative efforts made to bring these projects from early concept through to construction now underway!
